Sheffield's Major Sports Events Programme

Sheffield's Major Sports Events Unit have been in existence since 1991.

Since then the unit have attracted over 600 international, national and regional events to the city.

It is the unit's purpose to both attract the events to the city and then to operationally deliver the events with the relevant event owners, this has resulted in the city hosting one of the most successful major sports events programmes in the UK.

  • 2000 - World Short Track Speed Skating Championships
  • 2004 - World Firefighters Games
  • 2007 - Eurozone Wheelchair Basketball Championships
  • 2007 - Microsoft Corporate Challenge
  • 2007 - 2009 FINA Diving World Series
  • 2009 - English Open International Table Tennis
                 Championships
  • 2010 - World Goalball Championships
  • 2011 - FINA Diving World Series
  • 2011 - UK School Games
  • 2011 - European Fencing Championships

The core of the programme concists of National Championships and has resulted in the city creating excellent working relations with a number of key National Governing Bodies of Sport. We now know their expectations and have the facilities and infrastructure to deliver them.
