Sheffield will continue to procure, manage and deliver high quality Major Sports Events and seek to attract countries and sports to use Sheffield as a venue for their International Training Camps.

Sheffield already has a national and international reputation for securing and delivering major sports events.
Sporting events that have taken place in the city include the World Snooker Championships, the FINA World Diving Series, the Great Yorkshire Run and the prestigious BBC Sports Personality Awards. In the lead up to London 2012, Sheffield has secured a number of events as a direct result of the Olympic and Paralympic Games being hosted in the UK. These include the European Fencing Championships 2011, the UK School Games in 2011 and the 66th Table Tennis English Open International Championship in January 2011.
Alongside major sporting events, Sheffield regularly welcomes teams from all over the world for International Training Camps. In the lead up to London 2012, more and more teams will be looking to base their camps in the UK and Sheffield is well placed to benefit from this.
Sheffield is working closely with the other South Yorkshire boroughs of Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster to offer twenty one accredited Pre-Games Training Camp facilities. This South Yorkshire partnership provides facilities to host virtually all Olympic and Paralympic sports.
In August 2010, US Diving confirmed that they will use Sheffield as their training camp for 2012. In September 2010, Brazil Judo also confirmed Sheffield as their training base for 2012. In the lead up to London 2012, Sheffield is hoping to secure further teams over the coming year.
