Open Weekend

The London 2012 Open Weekend 2010 took place on 23rd - 25th July - starting the countdown to two years to go to the Olympic Games. More than 975 events were staged across the UK - ranging from sport to art, and from dance to exhibitions, and 21 of them were held in Sheffield.

Each event featured a special challenge, and gave visitors the chance to try something new or take an existing skill to a new level. More than 2000 people took part in Sheffield events, with highlights including:

  • Sheffield Try-Athlon: 3 types of Olympic inspired street entertainment happening across the City Centre over the three days including our 5 torch-bearing Olympians

Steel City Olympians

  • 2012 Metre Swimming Challenge: That saw dozens of participants at pools all over Sheffield swim a total of 2012 metres - that's just over 2 miles!
  • 2012 Together: A national event that Concord Youth Marching Band took part in involving 2012 musicians all marching and playing at the same time at different locations all over the UK.
