We've opened up access to 11 swimming pools in Sheffield. On Sunday 26 July people can swim for only 1 per adult or child.

Sheffield Music City 24 and 25 July 2009
Location: Peace Gardens, Barkers Pool, Winter Garden

This is a brand new music festival with big name bands and activities for all. Inspired by Olympic and Paralympic ideals of internationalism and youth, the festival will have a World Music Stage and a Kids Zone. The World Stage has some of the best musicians playing blues, reggae and a host of other sounds. In the Kids Zone there's music & dance performances for, and by, children and hands-on activities.
The big screen will be showing films and interviews with Sheffield's sporting stars.
At 10am on Saturday 25 July cheerleaders from local schools will be performing a specially created cheer, inspired by the London 2012 games, to crowds in the peace gardens. Come along and join in the action!

Activity Sheffield's Sport in the Community Olympic and Paralympic Roadshow

In celebration of the London 2012 Open Weekend, Sheffield City Council's Activity Sheffield service has put on a Sport in the Community roadshow.
This event is part of the Sheffield-Lighting the Flame events happening across the city.
The sports on offer will be Olympic and Paralympic themed, so come along and try: Athletics - track and field, hurdles, standing Long Jump, Javelin and sprints. Also on offer is Basketball and Volleyball which will be delivered by City of Sheffield Volleyball Players!
The Paralympic sport of Boccia will also be played.

Following Team GB's huge success at cycling during the Beijing Olympics, kids in Sheffield are being given the opportunity to have a go themselves.
Children aged 8-14 are invited to take part in Sheffield's 'Cycle Olympics' at Cookson Park in Southey Green.
If you think you could be the next Chris Hoy, come and have a go at our Olympic inspired cycle events.
Our bikes are cycle speedway bikes this means NO BRAKES OR GEARS just confidence, agility and determination of the rider. The track is built to the set standards required.

Sheffield Children's Library Olympic Quest

The Olympic Library Quests commence at 11am, 1pm, 3pm
This is a free event. Just turn up and join in.
This activity is part of the Sheffield - Lighting the Flame celebrations happening across Sheffield on the London 2012 Open Weekend.
Storyteller Shonaleigh will transport participants back to Ancient Greece with stories and quest activities around the library with gold, silver and bronze prizes up for grabs.
The event is aimed at 8-13 year olds as part of the Kids Can Do programme.

Mini Olympics
Thursday 30th July - English Institute of Sport
In preparation for the 2012 Olympics, SIV are inviting all young people aged 8 to 13 years to take part in the SIV Mini Olympics.
On Thursday 30th July, all young people attending the Holiday Camps at Concord Sports Centre, Don Valley Stadium, English Institute of Sport- Sheffield, Hillsborough Leisure Centre, iceSheffield and Ponds Forge International Sports Centre will be given the opportunity to participate in mini Olympic sports, where the focus is on fun.
All competitors will gather at EISS to compete, in their Venue teams, against one another in a variety of activities such as running, jumping, unusual relays and team building activities. The activities will focus more on participation and enjoyment than competition.
The event at the start of the school summer holidays will be the introduction of a series of sporting activities which enable young people attending the Venue holiday activities, to experience Olympic sports through taster sessions that have been incorporated into each weekly programme.
The theme of Olympic sport will form part of every Holiday Activity held at SIV Venues. Various clubs will be asked to showcase their sports and all participants will be given the opportunity to have a go at something they may never have tried previously.

Lighting the Flame event
Fun and fitness will be the order of the day at Doncaster's Lighting the Flame event on Saturday 25 July, when local sports clubs will showcase their sports at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Prepare to be inspired as Olympic Tae Kwon Do coach Gary Sykes and Commonwealth boxing star Jonjo Irwin tell you about what it takes to achieve your health and fitness goals.
From 10am to 3pm, local sports clubs including the Rovers, local rugby teams the Dons and the Knights, the hockey club, athletics club, rowing club and many more will be on hand to let you and your children know what they can offer.
Other fun activities on the day include a bungee fun run and sumo wrestling in sumo suits. There will also be a chance to test your health and see how your sporting fitness compares with an Olympic athlete.
