Olympic Torch Relay 2012

Prior to the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch will spend 70 days touring the United Kingdom.

London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay by numbers

8,000 inspiring Torchbearers will have an opportunity to take centre stage; each with a story of personal achievement or contribution to their local community.

8,000 miles is the estimated total distance the Olympic Flame will travel either in Relay or in convoy (driving and other modes of transport).

110 Torchbearers (on average) to take part in the Olympic Torch Relay each day.

90% of the 8,000 Torchbearer places will be made available to the public through a number of channels, including the four public nomination campaigns to be run by LOCOG, Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.

Sheffield and the Olympic Torch relay.

The Olympic torch will arrive on the streets of Sheffield on Monday 25 June 2012. There will be community and family events being staged in the city centre from 12 noon and at Hillsborough park from 3pm.

Sheffield will host one of the 66 evening celebrations on the Olympic Flame's journey across the UK. This is one of only 5 celebrations in Yorkshire and the Humber and will be free for spectators to watch. It will take place in Barkers Pool in the city centre.

At these events London 2012 and the Presenting Partners of Lloyds TSB, Samsung and Coca-Cola will stage an exciting 2 hour entertainment show, and the Olympic Flame will light a cauldron marking the end of the day's proceedings.

The torch will depart from Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield.

All timings approximate. Spectators are advised to line the route up to an hour early to avoid missing the torch.

Monday 25 June

16.45 arrives at Chapeltown; the route is then Chapeltown Cowley Hill (A629) then Ecclesfield Road (A6135).

17.05 arrives in Ecclesfield; The route is then Ecclesfield Road (A6135), Church Street (B6087), Stocks Hill (B6087), Yew Lane (B6087), Chaucer Road (B6087), Chaucer Close.

At this point the torch relay team board the bus and go into convoy mode. The torch isn't visible to public.

17.40 arrives at Hillsborough; The route is then Leppings Lane (B6079), Parkside Road (A6102), Hillsborough Park, Parkside Road (A6102), Penistone Road North (A61), Hoyle Street (A61), Brook Hill (A57), Clarkson Street, Glossop Road (B6069), Clarkehouse Road (B6069), Brocco Bank.

18.40 arrives at Ecclesall; The route is then Ecclesall Road (A625), St Mary's Gate (A61), Eyre Street (A621), Arundel gate (A621), Norfolk Street, Surrey Street, Leopold Street.

Arrives at the evening celebration in Barkers Pool. The evening celebration will run from 17.30 - 20.00 approximately.

Tuesday 26 June

07.30 Torch Starts from Attercliffe; The route is Don Valley Stadium, Leeds Road, Worksop Road (B6085), Attercliffe Road (A6178), Attercliffe Common, Don Valley Bowl, Terry Street, Attercliffe Common (A6178), Sheffield Road (A6178).

Departs Sheffield at 08.00 approximately via Sheffield Road (A6178).
